The Client
Mate Vitality is a UK-based health and wellness brand selling organic yerba mate tea — a plant-based energy drink known for clean, steady focus without the crash of traditional energy drinks. Their product range includes blended teas, accessories, and wellness essentials, all built around one promise: natural energy you can depend on.
The brand had strong products and a clear identity. The website, however, was not keeping up.
GTmetrix Performance Breakdown
The Problem
When Mate Vitality came to HK Tech Hub, the website had two separate problems one technical, one visual and both were costing them customers.
Performance Was Critical: GTmetrix rated the site an F with a 14% performance score. The page took 8.2 seconds to load its main content long enough for most visitors to leave before seeing a single product. Total Blocking Time was 1.2 seconds and the layout was visibly shifting as the page loaded, creating a poor and unreliable experience for every visitor.
The Design Was Holding the Brand Back: The existing layout was cluttered and generic. Key sections product features, reviews, the brand story were not presented in a way that built trust or guided visitors toward a purchase. The homepage did not reflect the quality or the values of the Mate Vitality brand.

HK Tech Hub approached this project in two parallel tracks — fix the technical foundation first, then rebuild the design on top of it.
Full Technical Speed Audit
We started with a complete performance audit to identify every issue dragging the site down — unoptimized images, render-blocking resources, poor caching, and inefficient code loading order. Each issue was logged and prioritized by impact.
Image Optimization
Images were the biggest contributor to slow load times. We compressed and converted all product and banner images — cutting file sizes significantly without any visible quality loss. Lazy loading was implemented so images only load when they enter the viewport.
Code & Resource Cleanup
Unused CSS and JavaScript were removed. Non-critical scripts were deferred and the loading order was restructured so the browser renders visible content first. This brought Total Blocking Time from 1.2 seconds down to 0 milliseconds.
Full Homepage Redesign
The homepage was rebuilt with a clean structure. The hero section clearly communicates the brand message from the first second. Product sections are organized logically, the features block is visually engaging, and the 5,000+ review count is given proper prominence to build trust immediately.
About Page Redesign
The About page was redesigned from a wall of text into a structured brand story. Key values — organic, functional, eco-friendly, convenient — were pulled out as visual highlights. An accordion layout kept the page clean while still providing depth for visitors who want more.
UX & Conversion Improvements
Product cards were redesigned for clarity. The review section was made more prominent. The newsletter section was redesigned to encourage sign-ups. A WhatsApp contact button was added for quick customer access.
